Addition to the Skyline
One Indiana Square has always held a special place in our hearts—particularly, the neon crown of the building. The blue bulbs currently wrapped around the top will soon be replaced with green ones to match the colorscheme of one of the tower’s clients, Regions Bank. Whatever the color, it’s now the prettiest part of the skyline at night.
Vertical Lift
When you go up in Conner Prairie’s new 1859 Balloon Voyage—which is tethered and doesn’t really go anywhere but up—you get a 350-foot-high view of the vast blanket of verdant farmland strewn with pocketsof suburbia. 13400 Allisonville Rd., Fishers, 776-6006, connerprairie.org
Paintball
You love your friends. But sometimes, don’t you just want to set them loose in the woods, track them down, and shoot them? Avoid the messy homicide charges and take them to White River Paintball in Anderson—125 acres of paint-pocked heaven. Choose from eight playing fields like the Airstrip, littered with the hulking remains of aircraft, or Bedlam City, a terrain of cars, trucks, and several buildings for cover. 5211 S. New Columbus Rd., Anderson, 489-3732,whiteriverpaintball.com
Hotel Amenity
The Staybridge Suites home theater pampers the common man. Kick back in one of five brown leather recliners and watch the Colts on the 60-inch plasma flat screen. 535 S. West St., 536-7500 ichotelsgroup.com
New Sports Heroes
It has taken 10 years for the Indiana Fever to achieve household-name status. Now that Tamika Catchings and Katie Douglas have become part of the local vernacular and Conseco Fieldhouse has pulled in upwards of 18,000 fans for the WNBA playoffs, there is no question that we’ve all caught the fever. Add in a hip-hop dance crew, an Avenue Q–like mascot, a charis-matic coach with an accent thicker than Paula Dean’s, and … did we mention that they ended the season one win short of a championship title?
Makeshift Dance Floor
A mild-mannered bistro by day, Midtown Grill in Broad Ripple gets its freak on after dark. Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, the lounge room next to the restaurant transforms into a dance floor with some of the hottest 30-somethings in the city. For a $5 cover charge, you can avoid the inebriated hordes on the strip and groove to a live DJ. Classy, but definitely not stiff. 815 E. Westfield Blvd., 253-1141, midtown-grill.com
