My Best of Indy: Katie Stam Irk

As Miss America 2009, Katie Stam Irk knows a few things about beauty and fitness. Now a mother and a real-estate agent with Keller Williams, she walks us through her routine.

My perspective on health and fitness hasn’t changed much since the Miss America competition. I’ve always been very conscious about exercise and what I eat. I work out at Indianapolis Fitness Studios with my trainer, Amy Kraner, three days a week, then attend her bootcamp on Saturday mornings. Right after I had my daughter, my goal was to lose the 40 pounds of baby weight I had put on, so I did some extra cardio during that period. Biking and elliptical were my machines of choice.
I don’t go to the spa very often—usually only when I have a major event coming up. But I love Salon 01 for facials. And I do body scrubs at home. I get all of my products at Bath Junkie at the Carmel City Center.
Of course, what you put in your body is more important than what you put on it. I consider food to be a beauty product. We grow a lot in our garden at our home, and we shop every week at the Carmel Farmers Market. My advice: Eat well, sleep well, exercise, and wear fake eyelashes.
