Seven Ways to Spend Halloween

We’re giving you exactly seven reasons to leave your couch this weekend.
Lon Chaney
Not feeling like doing the same old schtick of staying at home, handing out candy, and watching a cheap horror movie before passing out? Whether you’re into fear or fun, if you’re past the age of trick-or-treating, you can still treat yourself to one of the many events available this Halloween in Indy. Here are seven ways to celebrate Halloween—like an adult:

Give your heart a workout at the Indy Scream Park

If you’ve driven down any sort of highway in Indianapolis within the last two months, you’re probably familiar with this classic and its Grudge-girl-esque cover model. Plan on experiencing the fear factor of one of this location’s six attractions. Consider packing a change of clothes, or embracing the concept of adult diapers sooner than you expected.

Dip into a new culture during Día de los Muertos at the Eiteljorg

Never really enjoyed Halloween to begin with? Satisfy your penchant for cultural immersion at the Eiteljorg this Saturday, which has teamed up with Nopal Cultural Center to offer free admission to a day-long experience of the colorful Latin American holiday.

Show off your puppy-love at Howl-O-Ween

We have a full schedule of events for the upcoming fall months. More information coming soon. #dogcostumecontest #howloween

Are you in the stage of life where you have “fur babies,” but not real babies? Hit up Howl-O-Ween at Apple Works in Trafalgar, sponsored by the Brown County and Johnson County Humane Societies. Dress up your dog for a day of fun in an apple orchard—you could even win a prize!

Appear more cultured than you are at Frightful: A Silent Halloween

Not a fan of jump-scares or fake blood? Have a classier Halloween with a showing of the 1925 silent classic The Phantom of the Opera and spooky organ music from global performer Mark Herman at the Indiana Landmarks Center. On Friday, the doors open at 6:45 p.m., and the showing begins at 7:30.

Whether you’re a true believer, or just want to scare the pants off your overly jumpy friend, the Irvington ghost tour is sure to entertain as a team of paranormal specialists takes you on a two-hour walk of Irvington’s local haunts. (The spirited kind.) A month-long event during October, it offers four more opportunities to attend on Friday and Saturday. Tours will be leaving at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. both days.

Get a bite to eat with the Addams family at Beef & Boards

Go out for dinner and a show at Beef & Boards this week, with their current run of The Addams Family musical. Whether you’re an avid fan of the gothic comedy, or you’re just not feeling like cooking this Halloween, there’s a showing at 8 p.m. every day this week, continuing at various showtimes into late November. Get a ticket before it sells out!

Too old for trick-or-treating, but too young for responsibility?  Join in a free Hallow’s Eve pub crawl in Speedway this Friday, starting at 7 p.m. Dress up and enjoy special Halloween concoctions at Foyt Wine Vault, Daredevil Brewing Co., Lino’s Coffee, and Barbecue & Bourbon.

Bonus: if you can handle the hangover, there’s still time for another event on Saturday!
