Midwest Fashion Week 2014 Highlights

A look at Friday night’s runway show

As soon as spring arrived, Midwest Fashion Week’s runway show on Friday night at the Indianapolis Artsgarden brought a taste of 2014’s spring (and fall) collections. Some highlights:

Don’t be afraid of floral prints. Lily Scalf of Lily V Designs uses bold colors such as bright pinks and teals to pair with traditional florals (pictured, left).

Do purchase a waist-tie jacket while they’re still on the racks. Designer Danielle Canfield added a touch of Japanese flair to her elaborate outerwear. “I tried to take a lot of the silhouettes of the culture and combine them,” she says (pictured, right).

Don’t put away your leather pieces just yet, because it seems as if the trend is here to stay. Knee-length skirts and dresses were the stars in last night’s show. Designer Michael Alan Stein showcased an upscale collection of form-fitting dresses created with small touches of leather and geometric lines (pictured, left).

Do play with layers. Canfield included many floor-length trains worn under or over modern apparel (pictured, right).

Don’t forget about sequins. Whether they’re sprinkled onto your camisole or completely taking over your dresses, they’re in. Lisa Reed‘s collection, Angelic Reise, combines black, gold, and violet sequins along with solid neutral colors (pictured, left).
