The Feed: Chow Down Midtown, Joe’s Butcher Shop, and More

This Week’s Trends in Indy Dining

» Mark your calendars—the sixth-annual Chow Down Midtown will run from July 11 to July 24, offering three-course, value-priced menus at participating restaurants, including 317 Burger, Delicia, Recess, and The Northside Social. The full list of eateries is now available, and the menus will be posted soon.

» According to the IBJ, Joe’s Butcher Shop in the Carmel Arts District (111 W. Main St., Carmel, 317-846-8877) is expanding. The 10-year-old storefront will grow by 900 square feet to house a kitchen where owner Joe Lazzara will operate a new catering operation and, with his team of chefs, create to-go gourmet lunch sandwiches.

» Yesterday, chefs, bartenders, and artists teamed up at Dig IN’s i3: Indulge, Imbibe, Imagine event to interpret Indianapolis landmarks through their work. Chef Dean Sample of Meridian Restaurant, bartender Jason Foust of The North End Barbecue & Moonshine, and local artist Lauren Ditchley won for their interpretation of the National American Legion Headquarters, which included Sample’s version of classic army fare S.O.S. with Asian-spiced brisket on toast with sugar-snap peas, and Foust’s “For God & Country” cocktail with ingredients from every major WWII front, including Italian grappa, Asian pear puree, and southeast Asian spices.

» As if we needed another reason to visit Broad Ripple eatery The Garden Table for brunch, the restaurant just added a Modbar, and is now serving espresso drinks.
