The Feed: Hedge Row American Bistro And The Sweetness Of Mrs. Curl

This week’s trends in Indy dining.
» Entrepreneur and The Kitchen cofounder Kimbal Musk announced details about the restaurant he plans to bring to downtown Indianapolis in 2017. Hedge Row American Bistro will open in The Marietta building at 342 Massachusetts Ave., serving a seasonal menu from a wood-fired oven. The restaurant is phase two of Musk’s food project in town, which started late last year when The Kitchen Community installed learning gardens in several Marion County schools.

Wood roasted #realfood from @thekitchen. Coming to Cherry Creek, CO and Indianapolis, IN in 2017.

» If you’re going to treat yourself to a doughnut on a Saturday morning, you might as well go all-in and make it an ice-cream doughnut. Mrs. Curl Ice Cream in Greenwood (259 S. Meridian St., 317-882-1031) sells ice cream–filled long johns from 10 to 11 a.m., unless they sell out sooner. (Spoiler alert: they do.) The doughnuts are sourced from fellow Greenwood business Daylight Donuts (1285 State Road 135, 317-882-9530).

» But if you miss out on the ice-cream long john, console yourself by staring at the stunning doughnut-shaped cake we spied on Instagram from local custom-order shop LaTorte Bakery

» New Albany’s River City Winery opened a tasting room in Franklin this weekend (25 N. Main St., Franklin, 812-945-9463). The space is open to the public Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and from noon to 11 p.m Friday through Sunday. $5 buys you seven one-ounce pours and will be applied to bottles of wine if you decide to do some shopping.
» Bravo’s Andy Cohen came to town last week and had some breakfast trouble. The morning after Cohen’s appearance with Anderson Cooper at The Murat Theatre, our favorite Housewives moderator and late-night talk-show host took to Twitter to bemoan the early quitting time for hotel breakfast in the Circle City. Colts linebacker Matt Overton weighed in with some advice for the New Yorker (go get brunch, bro!). Mr. Cohen, may we suggest a few of these places for your next visit?
» A festival for chocolate? Yes, please. Chocolate Fest 2017 is April 8 at the Artsgarden (110 W. Washington St.). Pre-sale tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids, and include samples from local businesses like Litterally Divine Chocolates, Louise’s Sweets, Simply Divine Cupcakes, and Hubbard & Cravens Coffee and Tea. The event benefits Arts for Learning, an organization that connects working artists with Indiana schools and communities.
