Tis the season of Hoosier fall frolic—finding joy in Saturday roller coaster drives through brightly hued sycamores, maple, and oak trees. Those in need of inspiration may want to head to Greensburg, 60 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
For lunch, check out the bright and stylish Mayasari Indonesian Grill (213 N.Broadway St., Greensburg, 812-222-2009), the only restaurant in Indiana with cuisine from the Asian archipelago. Let chef Maya shatter your preconceived notion about ethnic food outside the city. Order the signature iced tea with bits of cubed fresh mangoes. Follow with succulently tender chicken satay, and a ketimun; a hollowed cucumber boat stuffed with spinach, bacon, and tomato. Finish the meal with sweet bungus—a delectable crepe filled with banana and diced mango, and topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
On the drive back to Indianapolis, stop at HighPoint Orchard (3321 N. Old US Highway 421, Greensburg, 812-663-4534) for a bag of fresh apples. Stake out a picnic table next to the country gift shop to energy up on homemade doughnuts and hot cider for the journey home.
