Cake Boss Buddy Valastro Talks Indy Love, Gives Out 10,000 Cakes

The TLC reality show star met with a crush of enthralled fans on Monument Circle.

Indianapolis got a little taste of New Jersey today as TLC’s Cake Boss, Buddy Valastro, handed out 10,000 of his green “Bada Bloom” cakes on Monument Circle. To celebrate the one-year anniversary of his grocery-store line of Cake Boss Cakes, Valastro—who counts the Dulce de Leche and Va Va Velvet among his favorites—decided to give back to the cities he loves most. “God has been good to me,” the reality TV star said during a break from signing autographs. “It’s a very important thing for me to let fans know how much I care.”

Valastro said he has been partial to Indianapolis since he promoted one of his many cookbooks here. “When we were figuring out where to go, I said Indianapolis is one where we have to go,” he said. “The fans in Indianapolis always make me feel at home.”

Fans, including Carmie Rangel, who drove two hours from Rochester with her two kids just to get one of the eight-inch pastries, could wait in line to garner a cake and then meet Valastro until 8 p.m. initially—but those 10,000 cakes were gone over the noon lunch hour. The Cake Boss was whisked away then, and crowds lingered a bit before everyone on the scene dispersed entirely to go about the day at hand.
