Last Week We Ate At...Euphoria (337 W. 11th St., 955-2381),
where we took advantage of the temporary break in the heat to sit on
the second-story balcony and sip Cosmopolitans over a first course that
included an heirloom tomato salad with thick slices of juicy tomatoes
layered over a swipe of ricotta and served with lavender, pistachios,
and arugula; and a pair of sea scallops with a garnish of roasted corn,
cherries, cucumbers, and cilantro. |

to sample more of the dishes prepared by new executive chef Tracy
Lemmonds. It was half-price wine bottle night, so we chose to cut the
heat with a bottle of 2008 Gilt Pinot Gris from Oregon, a soft, sweet
accompaniment to the complimentary pretzel bread, served with a trio of
spreads, and an appetizer of a (rather bland) white polenta cake, topped
with crispy leeks, shrimp, tasso ham, and a (redemptive) spicy cream
sauce. |

Last Night We Ate At Napolese (114 E. 49th St., 925-0765), Martha Hoover’s artisanal pizzeria that opened on Monday, and by the looks of things, most of the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood decided to eat there as well. The wait topped 45 minutes by about 7:30, but one whiff of the garlicky aromas wafting from the 1,200-degree oven told us it would be worth it. Many of the servers are familiar faces from other Patachou and Petite Chou locations, and their ease and efficiency at accommodating hungry throngs showed. |
