Raising the Dead
Dark Star Orchestra returns to the Murat Egyptian Room.
There are cover bands. There are tribute acts that dedicate their sets to the songs of a particular group. And then there is Dark Star Orchestra, a Grateful Dead tribute band that takes its performance to a whole other tie-dyed level by re-creating entire Dead concerts. Every time the Chicago-based ensemble takes the stage, fans hear the complete set list from one of the 2,333 shows the Dead played over three decades of touring—in detail, right down to lead guitarist Jerry Garcia’s improvisations. Last February, DSO rocked the Murat Egyptian Room with the Madison Square Garden show from March 10, 1981. To what time and place will local Deadheads be transported this year?
