Its college-town roots toned down but still detectible, the first restaurant to move into downtown’s Milliken on Mass mixed-use complex is a polished-up Irish pub serving hearty, Guinness-friendly food. All of the traditional bites make an appearance on the Lafayette-based chain’s lengthy menu, including corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash, and a jumbo platter of fish and chips that begs for its own bottle of malt vinegar. If you just want something to nibble as you sip your Bushmills-laced Irish coffee or work your way though a whiskey flight, a selection of smaller plates—like mussels in garlic-cream sauce, field greens topped with raspberry vinaigrette and delicate fried balls of goat cheese that you crush into the salad, and potato skins under all the briny, meaty components of a reuben sandwich—are worthy distractions from the numerous flat-screen tellies.
