If pier one designed lunchboxes, the result would look something like what arrives at your downtown office when you order from Neal Brown's new meal-delivery service. Emanating from the kitchen of The Libertine Liquor Bar, the shiny metal capsules contain a daily rotating roster of meals dreamed up by chef Erin Till. “We needed to go with foods that traveled well and could hold their heat,” says Till, who favors stews and other dense liquids that tuck easily into the lower compartment of the stacked, insulated tiffin carriers. Pork carnitas tacos packaged with black beans were a hit as soon as the business launched in November, along with a fiery Thai red curry, offered in both chicken and tofu versions. Till prepares one set meal for each day of the week (Tuesday through Friday) and accepts phone and online orders until 10 a.m. on the day of delivery. Bicycle couriers deliver the meals and return a couple of hours later to retrieve the empty tiffins. “We also have people who come by and pick up their tiffins to eat outside when the weather's nice,” Till says. Yet another reason to look forward to spring. Visit The Brown Bag's Facebook page for a link to an online order form.
