This century-old steakhouse remains the epicenter of downtown—walls carry decades' worth of celebrity photos, the burnished bar hearkens to an earlier era, and the servers remain starched and bowtied. The drill remains the same as well: a generous martini; a shrimp cocktail with the infamously hot cocktail sauce (the only appetizer available); the bean soup or tomato juice; the wedge; and one of the large steaks. Occasional specials like a recent mahi mahi in lobster cream sauce are a pleasant surprise, as are desserts—try the seasonal bread pudding, recently made with blueberries and white chocolate.
