Indianapolis Monthly Internship Opportunities

Indianapolis Monthly offers college students and graduates three types of unpaid internships: editorial, art and promotions/sales. Internships are offered in the spring and fall semesters, winter academic term (January) and summer. Interns can work full- or part-time. Deadlines for applying are March 15 (summer), August 1 (fall), October 14 (spring) and November 1 (winter term).

Editorial interns' main responsibility is fact-checking, perhaps the least glamorous aspect of our business but an integral part of our process. They work on all of our editorial products, including Indianapolis Monthly Home, Indy Shops, City Guide, Menu Guide, regular edit for Indianapolis Monthly, and special sections for Indianapolis Monthly. They also do research for the staff on a variety of topics. The editorial staff often assigns short pieces to be written by interns, and we strive to ensure that each intern gets at least one byline in at least one of our products. Interns are expected to participate in meetings and to submit story ideas. They need to be extremely detail-oriented, willing to ask questions, and able to multitask.

Candidates for editorial internships: Send resume and writing samples to Kim Hannel, managing editor, khannel@indymonthly.emmis.com

Candidates for promotions/sales internships: Send resume to Laura Groninger, advertising director, lgroninger@indymonthly.emmis.com
