David Zivan became editor of Indianapolis Monthly in October 2005, after seven years as a senior editor at Chicago magazine, where he wrote and edited features and cover stories. In 2000, Zivan published ten short biographies of athletes in ESPN SportsCentury (Hyperion). Prior to that, he was editor of Music Inc., a trade magazine for the musical instruments industry, and calendar editor for In Pittsburgh, a newsweekly, where he served as an arts critic. He holds an M.S.J. from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, an M.F.A. in creative writing from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a B.A. in English from Denison University.
Amy Wimmer Schwarb, Executive Editor

A 10th-generation Hoosier, Wimmer Schwarb grew up in Mount Etna and began writing for local newspapers when she was 12. After earning a journalism degree from Indiana University, where she was editor in chief of the Indiana Daily Student, she spent eight years as a reporter at the St. Petersburg Times in Florida; her work has earned numerous awards. Wimmer Schwarb returned to Indiana to join Indianapolis Monthly in 2005. She lives with her husband and daughter in Irvington.
Julia Spalding, Senior Editor

Julia's first job out of Ball State University was with Indianapolis Monthly. She spent 11 happy years on the editorial staff before moving to Southern California, where she penned freelance articles for a variety of magazines; co-wrote The Encyclopedia of Guilty Pleasures: 1,001 Things You Love to Hate and The Complete Excuses Handbook: The Definitive Guide to Avoiding Blame and Shirking Responsibility for All Your Own Miserable Failings and Sloppy Mistakes. She also contributed to the travel guide Moon Metro Los Angeles, wrote copy for an online marketing company, and served as the staff writer/editor at a San Diego book publisher. After getting all of that out of her system, Julia returned to Indy and the Monthly in 2007.
Sherri Pfouts, Senior Editor

After growing up in Indy, Sherri Pfouts headed for Bloomington (to earn a degree in journalism at Indiana University), New York City (to learn the hard knocks of paying rent), Columbus, Ohio (to school herself in advertising copywriting), and back to Indiana (to figure out she really loves her Hoosier roots). Prior to coming to Indianapolis Monthly, Pfouts was the editor of INtake Weekly and a freelance editor for Stretching Canvas magazine. She is the author of Vicious, Delicious and Ambitious: 20th Century Women Artists. Her second book, Women, Wheels, and Wicked Fun: The Art of Modern-Day Roller Derby, hits bookstores in late 2008.

A native of St. Elizabeth, Missouri (pop. 312) and a graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism, Rehagen is an award-winning newspaper reporter who prefers the depth and freedom of magazine writing. His first story for Indianapolis Monthly was a profile of Dan Wheldon, who, after being interviewed by Rehagen, went on to win the 2005 Indy 500. Rehagen lives in Broad Ripple with his wife.
Daniel S. Comiskey, Associate Editor

Daniel Comiskey joined the magazine in 2006, shortly after completing an MA in journalism at Indiana University. During graduate school, he served as arts & culture editor of the Indiana Alumni Magazine and wrote for newspapers throughout the state. Comiskey’s long-form features have won a number of Society of Professional Journalists Awards, and have taken him inside sperm banks, across the country in a semi, and to the home of the world’s smallest books. He lives in Broad Ripple.
Michael Rubino, Associate Editor

Michael Rubino is an associate editor who grew up in Jasper, where he worked for 10 years at the local newspaper. Rubino, who did his undergraduate work at Wabash College, has an MA from Indiana University. Rubino has written for The Christian Science Monitor and The New York Times, and is on staff as an associate instructor at IU Bloomington, where he teaches a beginning journalism course.
Kristin Sims, Art Director

Kristin Sims has been with Indianapolis Monthly since 2002, first as the special-sections art director, then as Special Projects art director. She became acting art director for IM proper in January 2008. Her career has included stints with the Indiana state government, advertising, university publications, and medical and museum marketing publications. Sims lives in Irvington with her husband and her IM model dog (October ¹04 and July ¹06).
Margo Wininger, Associate Art Director

Margo Wininger came to IM in 2004 and has held several positions in the art department, including stints with Special Sections and Indianapolis Monthly Home. She currently designs the Circle City section, features, and cover packages. In her previous life she was in advertising, where she designed for accounts including the Heartland Film Festival and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. A Vincennes native, Wininger earned her BFA from Herron School of Art in 2001.
