Sometimes, when eating at a small-town restaurant with a big-city bill of fare, you can forget that you are surrounded by farmland and Americana. That is not the case at Broadway House Bistro—especially if the host seats you on the glassed-in front porch with a sweeping view of the Gibson County seat’s main drag. Chef Brynn Blankenberger grew up here. When she moved back home in 2012, after attending culinary school in Louisville and working front-of-the-house jobs there and in Cincinnati, she lucked into a prime location (a former lighting showroom) for her dream restaurant. “I wanted to keep it homey but more upscale,” says the chef, whose repertoire ranges from an 8-ounce steak frites slathered in garlic butter, to a bacon-wrapped pork loin with mango chutney and cream-cheese mashed potatoes, to panko-crusted stuffed fried chicken. 404 W.
