Overheard on the Indianapolis 500 Red Carpet

Quips from Patrick Dempsey, Andrew Luck, Tyler Hubbard, and their overheated fans at the 2015 Indianapolis 500 Red Carpet.
Celebrities walked the 2015 Indianapolis 500 red carpet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Patrick Dempsey

As the actor formerly known as McDreamy strutted the carpet, his hair slicked back and chiseled bone structure gleaming in the sun, fans shrieked his name and pushed against the gate. “Why is everyone interviewing him?” a particularly enthusiastic brunette barked out to her entourage of tan friends. Well, we had important things to ask, like whether he’d ever seen The Rolling Stones, who will play the IMS on July 4. “The first time I saw the Stones was in a small club in Toronto,” Dempsey said. “It was  a last-minute announcement, and I was up there shooting. I was about 10 feet away from Mick Jagger. It was one of the greatest musical experiences I’ve ever had.” His first concert ever? “It was Yes,” the actor said with a big laugh before heading off to wave the race’s green flag.

Andrew Luck

Dressed in a lightweight, blue elephant-print button-up, Luck quickly remembered his first concert. “ZZ Top, with my dad,” he said. “A great introduction to Southern rock.” Speaking of a sharp-dressed man, what brand is that cool elephant-print shirt? “I have no idea. My girlfriend bought it for me.”

Jordin Sparks

In a white, belly-baring top under a jacket with sheer side panels, plus tight pants and heels, the singer clapped and smiled her way down the carpet. “Your outfit is precious,” a fan endearingly yelled to the Season 6 winner of American Idol, who sang the national anthem Sunday.

Danielle Bradbery

Season 4 winner of The Voice, Bradbery is a fan of Indianapolis. “There’s a lot that I love about Indianapolis, but most importantly, it’s very sports-centric. The Colts are here. And, of course, the 500. I just love it all.”

Arie Luyendyk Jr.

Fans screeched as racecar driver Arie Luyendyk, Jr. arrived. Best-known for his stint on The Bachelor, Luyendyk was clearly a favorite. “Oh my god, I’m gonna have a heart attack,” one blonde yelled.

Tyler Hubbard

The Florida Georgia Line hearthrob isn’t too cool to admit that his first concert was ‘N Sync. “Hey, I went with a bunch of girls,” he said.

Tyler Clary

Wearing a white T-shirt that showed off his shoulder muscles, Olympic swimmer Tyler Clary snapped selfies with fans. “I can text it to you,” one fan joked. Nice try, girlfriend.
