Inspired by the Miller House’s conversation pit and its mood of vitality, Craig and Jennifer Von Deylen (he’s a principal architect at Blackline Studios, and she’s known for the IndySwank blog) built a home in Arden for dinners, dance parties, and nights of long talks by the fire.

Artwork
Craig and Jennifer bought the Murphy Building in Fountain Square in 2009 to ensure it remains a vital part of the city’s art scene. Their collection represents several local artists: Casey Roberts, Kyle Ragsdale, Lois Main Templeton, Ed Sanders, and more.
Victrola
Refurbished and fully functional, from Jennifer’s great-grandparents. “It has that incredible 1920s-evoking hissing and scratching that makes the music come alive,” Craig says. The needle gets replaced after every other use.
Books
Calvin Fletcher’s multi-volume biography is one of the couple’s favorites-—a tribute to their first meeting in the eponymous Fletcher Place neighborhood.
Clipper Ship
Craig found this model Black Hawk—a work from William Hitchcock, who builds models for museums, including the Maritime Museum in Savannah—in Boston. It’s the kind of vessel that might have brought Craig’s ancestors here from Bremen, Germany.
Daisy
A Catahoula Leopard mix (“allegedly,” says Craig). “A home is too quiet without a dog,” Jennifer says.
