Super City Q&A with Mayor Greg Ballard

Mayor Ballard was on hand today as Mark Miles, Allison Melangton, and Rick Fuson of the Super Bowl Host Committee and Village committee named more music stars and entertainment options that will descend upon Indy Jan. 27 through Feb. 5.

We caught up with the mayor after the announcement for his thoughts on the latest developments.

Super City: What band or musician are you most looking forward to in the Super Bowl Village?

Greg Ballard: I’d say Darius Rucker. He’s a good guy, and I like his music.

SC: Yes, formerly of Hootie & the Blowfish. So you like country?

GB: A little bit, sure.

SC: I heard you mention earlier that you’d really heard of only Darius Rucker and Patti LaBelle among all the music acts named.

GB: Yes, I like to say that I lost control of pop music about 15 years ago.

SC: Funny. What are you looking forward to as the rest of the Village’s entertainment options go?

GB: Just the camaraderie and the general good feeling of the Super Bowl Village. I think a lot of people are going to come out for that.

SC: You are a former Marine. What do you say to that 800-foot ZipLine over Capitol Avenue? Are you going to give it a go?

GB: [laughs] These are young men’s games. I don’t know, we’ll see.
