Holiday Gift Guide: Dads Tell Us What They Want

What to get for the hardest person to buy for
Simon Property Group released a depressing statistic this week: In its holiday-shopping survey, respondents chose dads as their least-favorite person to shop for. Pops even rated lower than “someone else” on the multiple-choice questionnaire. Aw, dad! We love you! We just don’t know what’s on your wish list, and that’s why you end up with the bacon bowl and a solid-color sweater. So we asked a few fathers around the office what they really want. Here’s what they said:
A denim shirt. Not a lightweight chambray button-up, but a polished rough-rider style that will keep him warm when he’s herding cattle chopping firewood pedaling the HandleBar. An indigo wash and yoke details are key. See Matthew McConaughey on the cover of November’s GQ.
A growler with a gasket top. “A cool-ass one that goes psssss”—like one from Black Acre Brewing Company in Irvington. If you buy it a day or so before gifting it, fill it with the brewery’s Saucy Intruder.
Cool whiskey glasses. Exactly like the Pop Chart Lab lowballs pictured above. They will be available soon at Inhabit Living in Irvington—conveniently located near Black Acre.
Whiskey rocks. When chilled, they act like ice cubes. Check Silver in the City and Z Gallerie for Teroforma Whiskey Stones.
A Big Green Egg grill. “It’s pricey, but it would be pretty great.” Splurge at Sullivan’s Hardware.
Baking steel for pizza. “Better than a stone. I’m getting my dad one for Christmas.” Find it at Sur la Table.
Fine shaving cream. “And an old-school metal razor. And German blades.” The Art of Shaving stocks the good stuff.
