Izzy & Es Turns Heads in Irvington

A new women’s boutique with substance and style
The clothes are soft but hard to miss. In stocking Izzy & Es, owner Clair Hermesch looks for details that set women apart—nothing makes it in without a notable flourish, be it an unexpected leather buckle, a surprisingly dainty knitted ruffle, or an asymmetrical zipper. The selection divides up evenly between pretty urban-girl pieces and on-trend staples, such as a Mysteree sweatshirt with knitted sleeves ($82). There’s just as much substance as style here, too. Taylor Swift may play, but you could stumble into a conversation about NPR or Alexander McQueen if Hermesch and her good friend, a Hoosier who used to build couture gowns for Tom Ford, are hanging out and swooning over high fashion. Hermesch, 25, brings experience from the Manhattan office of the designer label Tibi (where The Devil Wears Prada was filmed) to her business breakout and proves herself “a coat junkie” by devoting plenty of hanger space to outerwear, including a tribal-print Pink Martini number ($150). 5622 E.
