My Look: Yemi Sanni

The local fashion designer dishes on her style.

What informs the designs for your line, Stylenspire?

My heritage and fabrics. I primarily use Ankara prints and lace textiles native to my Yoruba culture in Lagos, Nigeria. The way of life is very ceremonial, celebratory, and flamboyantly artsy.

How would you describe your everyday look around indy?

Eclectic. I can be chic, Afro-centric, and classy all in one outfit.

What is your favorite thing in your closet right now?

A green Stylenspire vest. I have worn it over and over again, with a tee and shorts, a silk long-sleeve blouse and dress pants, or with a chambray shirt and jeans.

What’s your style mantra?

Own it—use fashion to tell a story that represents you. It almost always goes wrong when you imitate a look that isn’t you.
