New Shopportunity: Mass on Main

Downtown boutiques open a pop-up collective in Carmel.
Last year’s holiday pop-up shop Twelve Days of Mass Ave proved very successful and very short, so this year the Carmel store opened early—a good four months early. Renamed Mass on Main (110 W. Main St., 317-847-6799), the boutique is saving northsiders the drive downtown by stocking merchandise from a quartet of favorite Mass Ave stores: Silver in the City, Nurture, Crimson Tate, and Handmade Promenade. Forget the holiday part for now. There are always birthdays, housewarmings, and retail-therapy sessions to shop for. Silver in the City’s attitude-heavy Blue Q socks are worthy of college care packages, and the store is seeing a black-and-metallic-gold trend in jewelry and stationary items. Handmade Promenade features a brand-new Indiana-proverb tee by Sunday Afternoon Housewife (“Keep your friend close and your craft beer closer”) and stylized Indianapolis posters by local artist Indygenous.
But don’t wait for the first frost to sign up for classes offered by sewing and quilting studio Crimson Tate. One-day sessions will walk students through making a stocking or an infinity scarf. Look for the schedule at Mass on Main’s grand opening, September 13 during the Carmel Gallery Walk.
