Is it something out of an old wives’ tale, or a health guru’s genius fix to all of our undergarment needs? As of yesterday, women’s fashion retailer 8 Fifteen in Broad Ripple is offering the panty collection Hide & Cheek, and several pairs have already sold. Co-founded by a local queen of green living, Sara Snow, and her sister Elizabeth Redmond, this unusual line of women’s underwear is made of a uniquely soft second-skin SeaCel fabric containing—wait for it—seaweed.

This unique line is crafted only from certified organic Icelandic seaweed—which just has to be fancy, right? Seaweed has long been known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and skin-protecting effects, making it, after some thought, a reasonable choice for certain garments. It was while Sara was pregnant that the sisters hatched the idea for a line of undergarments using proactive materials, which they ultimately released in 2014.

It also expands to include a yoga pant and men’s boxer brief. Prices range from $29 to $89. The surprising staff favorite, though? The black slim-fit yoga pant ($89) is “tight on the leg without a restricting waistband,” says Loughery, making it super-flattering and comfortable.
