IU Stars Oladipo, Zeller Go Early in NBA Draft

The Hoosiers were snapped up second and fourth on Thursday night.

Last night’s NBA Draft was a memorable one for Victor Oladipo, Cody Zeller, and the Indiana University men’s basketball program itself. The outgoing Hoosiers were both picked in the first round, going second and fourth overall, respectively. Oladipo was selected by the Orlando Magic while Zeller will head east to Charlotte to play for the Bobcats.

Oladipo was the highest Hoosier draft pick since Isiah Thomas was selected second in 1981. He became only the sixth player in IU history to be selected with one of the first two picks in the draft.

With Oladipo and Zeller going second and fourth, they became the first Hoosier duo to be taken in the first five selections. Indiana became the sixth school in the past eight years to have two players selected in the top five of the same draft.

Zeller’s selection also has special significance for his family, as he became the third of three brothers to play in the NBA, joining older brothers Luke and Tyler. The Zellers now become only the third family in history to have three siblings play in the NBA, joining the Jones brothers in the 1970’s and ‘80s and the Barry brothers who played in the league at the same time from 1998 to 2000.
