VOTE: IU Bloomington's Twitter Feed Vies for a Shorty Award

With Indiana University collecting No. 1 rankings in men’s soccer, cheerleading, and men’s basketball, IU fans have had a lot to tweet about recently. Pair that athletic success with Little 500, scenic Bloomington and Brown County, and #HoosierNation, and it’s no surprise that IU might just also claim No. 1 in social media.

The official feed for Indiana University–Bloomington (@IUBloomington) has been nominated for a 2013 Shorty Award, which honors the Best in Social Media. The Twitter account has more than 63,000 followers and updates students and alumni on everything from weather alerts to notable alumni birthdays and #IUBB scores. With viral hash tags such as #OnlyAtIU and #1ndiana, the Twitter account has risen alongside the success of this year’s basketball team.

The fifth annual Shorty Awards honor individuals, organizations, and brands that produce the best real-time content across Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Foursquare, and anywhere else on the web. The Real–Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences, a group of social media experts ranging from Charlie Sheen to Steve Wozniak, discover and then choose the winners of the Shorty Awards each year.

Fan votes also play a large role in the winner each year. To vote for @IUBloomington or another Twitter account, visit www.shortyawards.com. Voting ends February 18, and the winners will be announced live on April 8.

Memo to IU: #GoodLuck.
