Cracking Indiana's New Area Code

The 411 on 930, Southern Indiana’s new digits—and how much longer 317 will last.
812 Numbers Are Up
The 7.9 million-or-so numbers in the 812 area code are nearly gone. Now the North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA)—which assigns area codes in the U.S., Canada, and 18 Caribbean countries—and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) are introducing 930. Phone companies can begin issuing 930 numbers as their allotments of 812s run out, as early as October 6.
Good Till 2084
After 930 is introduced, Southern Indiana shouldn’t need another area code for at least 70 years.
