Just Announced: Keith Urban to Take Two-Seater Ride at Indy 500

The country-music superstar will hop into a modified Indy car driven by Mario Andretti for a few parade laps before the race.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced today that  Keith Urban will get a special thrill at the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 later this month: Legendary driver Mario Andretti will take the country-music superstar for a ride in a two-seater Indy car to start the race.

The high-profile pair will lead the pace car on three parade laps before the field of 33 take the green flag.

Cars “symbolize freedom, independence, adventure, and so much more,” Urban said in a statement released by the IMS. “The Indy 500 is one of the true iconic motorsport events, and to get to drive with a legend like Mario in this 100th race is indescribable.”

“Keith and I are going to have some fun,” Andretti said in the IMS release. “The Indy 500 is the greatest day in racing, and to have a powerhouse like Keith along for the ride will make it greater.”
