City Market Goes To The Dogs

Four-legged friends of Charlie Kimball, James Hinchcliffe, and other locals lend their support to the Sudsy Pups Dog Wash fundraiser.
Her face in the sun, 8-year-old Snickers snoozed on the bricks of City Market’s Whistler Plaza. The commotion surrounding her didn’t faze the Shar Pei mix one bit, but with one TV appearance under her collar already that morning, a nap was definitely in order.
Snickers was just one adoptable pooch from Indianapolis Animal Care Services on site for the Sudsy Pups Dog Wash fundraiser, hosted by City Market and benefiting Indianapolis Animal Care Services. The event offered nail trimming and vaccinations, while volunteers soaped up and rinsed off dogs in need of a bath.
To cap off the event, those canines in need of homes, along with local celebs and their fur-children, walked the red carpet. IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe and girlfriend Becky Dalton were joined by Lucy, a 3-year-old Cockapoo, who, according to Dalton, loves swimming, her Frisbee, and Hinch, and will play fetch indefinitely. (Like any social media–savvy dog, she’s on Instagram, @louthecockapoo.)
Accompanying IndyCar driver Charlie Kimball and his wife Kathleen were Taj, a 13-year-old Husky, and Lilah, a 5-year-old Lab. In a few months, Lilah will complete training to be a certified diabetes alert dog for Charlie. He explains that Lilah’s powerful nose can detect changes in his skin’s scent, which indicates his blood sugar level is low. Now who’s a good girl?
