What the heck is Big Car Collaborative, anyway? Founder Jim Walker thinks the more important question is, what has Big Car done?
“I grew up on the other side of town, but we used to mountain-bike here when it was still a military base, so I remember the trucks and the guns and stuff. When I think of The Fort currently, I think of food, family, and fun. It’s a great place to spend the weekend. There’s just so much to do here now, and it used to be so empty.”
“We have had younger black women and men tell us they’ve decided to apply to graduate school because of us. I have no words for how that makes me feel, and I think that black women should talk about their accomplishments and hard work more often. You never know who is listening, you never know who you can touch, and you can even save a life.”
