Pick of the Litter: Pet Pride 2012

It was a downtown romp last night as dozens of dogs, cats, and even one ferret descended upon a parking lot at 707 N. Senate Ave. Indy Pride's second-annual Pet Pride event drew more than 500 (human) attendees, up from about 320 last year in its first inception.

The eagerness of brilliantly hued lorikeets as they stretch their necks to reach nectar. Long, curly eyelashes that lend a touch of flirtatiousness to the otherwise formidable southern ground hornbill, a 13-pound meat-eater that uses its enormous beak to skewer prey.

The Theban Trilogy at the IMA

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to see No Exit’s wonderfully unconventional Antigone on the grounds of the IMA. And as powerful as the Sophocles play was, I couldn’t help but feel as if I had walked into a movie an hour late. Having not seen the prequels Oedipus Rex and Oedipus at Colonus, performed earlier this month, I had to pick up elements of the backstory not remembered from college on the fly. Lucky for you, No Exit will stage all three plays on May 31, June 1, and June 2.

Time for Three Opens New Season of ISO Happy Hours

No offense to The Three Muskateers (opening at theaters across the country this weekend), but we're partial to our own trio. Time for Three will launch another ISO Stella Artois Happy Hour Series on Thursday, and the group leaked us the musical selections:

Beauty and the Beast Comes Up Roses at Clowes Hall

A well-worn "tale as old as time" brought all of its truisms and talents to the Clowes Memorial Hall stage on Tuesday night. It was opening night for the NETworks production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, which yet runs Oct. 13 through 16 here. This latest nationally-touring take on the show jump-starts both the Broadway in Indianapolis 2011-12 season and the source material itself.
