The Chocolate Moose

Bloomington’s throwback ice cream stand opened a satellite location in Nashville this year, dishing out the same treats—silky soft-serve and housemade hand-scooped, loaded splits and parfaits, vegan options. Fearrin’s Ice Cream & Yogurt

Owner Don Fearrin has created the recipes from scratch behind this little counter since 1990. He introduces novel flavors every year—try the pineapple-coconut-mint this fall. Miller’s

Doing it the same way for nearly 40 years, how ice cream was made from the beginning: fresh cream from a local dairy, churned by paddles in a wooden tub of ice and salt. Old-fashioned flavors range from black walnut to apple butter to peppermint candy. Order a dollop on a piece of the parlor’s homemade cobbler or persimmon pudding. 61 W.
