Zionsville’s New Taproom

August 20161 Comment

Generally speaking, word of a new taproom ’tis but a scratch on the surface of Central Indiana’s ever-deepening craft-beer scene. But on the brick-lined streets of sleepy suburbia, news of Noble Order Brewing Company pouring its medieval-themed brews in Zionsville issued a clarion call to the town: Bring out yer dead.

In a spot fit for John Cleese’s Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Richmond, Indiana, brewer has delighted packed houses at its first-ever off-brewery outpost with a strong lineup of 18 or so standards, specialties, and seasonals. With plenty to try, a flight of 4-ounce pours ($2 per) might be a newcomer’s best bet, but visitors won’t go wrong with Furst-Blood Orange Wheat. The German-style beer is mild and a bit earthy, and finishes with a tart citrus pop. For those who like beer for breakfast, Immolation-Bacon Smoked Porter is the pick.

The Holy Grail, it turns out, holds craft beer. 98 S. Main St., Zionsville, 344-2042, nobleorderbrewing.com
