Salt On Mass

The Millikan on Mass building’s resident surf-and-turf spot doesn’t exactly capture the Hoosier aesthetic. It’s not even trying, to be honest. The bleached-out decor assembles all of the matchy-matchy components of a Florida beach house, from the soothing gray walls to the driftwood art tucked into shiplap shelves. And yet, this 9-month-old beauty feels like the quintessential Mass Ave haunt. The horseshoe bar attracts suited-up dandies fresh from their downtown offices.

Chef Kathy Jones’s menu of elegantly prepared fresh seafood (the place doesn’t even have a freezer) caters to date-night couples in search of something special—like pan-seared Honolulu white sashimi walu over black “forbidden” rice or Sitka Sound salmon grilled over garlic fingerling potatoes. And thanks to a full city corner of floor-to-ceiling windows, you can sip a tropical cocktail and nibble some fried calamari while taking in the comings and goings at the Athenaeum across the street or just watching the people as they walk by the glass on Mass Ave—and peer back at you. 505 Massachusetts Ave., 317-638-6565, saltonmass.com
