» New downtown cocktail spot Broken Beaker Distillery (643 Massachusetts Ave.) is estimated to open around the second weekend of January, crafting cocktails from artisanal liquors, with scientific names like “Mitosis Brandy,” that will be distilled on-site. The distillery’s chef will work with the head mixologist to create food pairings with traditional pub fare, like sandwiches, panini, soups, and salads.

» In other exciting Mass Ave news, the owners of Bakersfield opened comfort-food restaurant The Eagle (310 E. Massachusetts Ave., 317-929-1799) last week. The menu stars Southern classics, like fried chicken, grits, and a “knife-and-fork” sloppy joe.

» According to The Indianapolis Star, Cake Bake Shop‘s (6515 Carrollton Ave., 317-257-2253) decadent Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake will be featured on the Food Network show Guilty Pleasures tonight at 10 p.m.

» A new Greenwood location (Greenwood Park Mall, 317-215-5400) of Bar Louie was recently opened by franchisee Frank Sweeney, who also owns a location in Mishawaka.
