Time-Lapse Video: Mass Ave's World Cup Block Party

Survey the scene (on speed) from Tuesday’s bash on two blocks of the avenue.

USA – Mass Ave Block Pary Time Lapse from Michael Schrader on Vimeo.
Thousands of not-quite-hooligans descended on Mass Ave downtown Tuesday to revel in the sporting glory of the World Cup match between the U.S. Men’s National Team and their counterparts from Belgium. Team U.S.A. ultimately acquiesced to the Belgians by a 2-1 score in the knockout round, though the Americans certainly had their chances, especially late in the contest, which went into extra time after a scoreless tie in regulation.

The party was to start at 2 p.m., with the game beginning at 4, but by noon fans had already piled into the area on Mass Ave between Park and College avenues. An estimated 6,500 to 7,000 attendees joined the fray sponsored by Indy Eleven and Indianapolis Downtown, Inc.
