One Haute Hoosier
You don’t often hear the name Norman Norell today. But the Noblesville native is a megastar in fashion history, having dressed such trendsetters as Jacqueline Kennedy and Doris Day among many others. When the Fashion Walk of Fame was laid in Manhattan in 1999, Norell was one of its inaugural five names—along with two other Hoosiers, Bill Blass (who was born in Fort Wayne) and Roy Halston Frowick (who grew up in Evansville). Norell’s accomplishments are beautifully celebrated in a new bio of one of Indiana’s greatest artists. The slim 21-page booklet, written by historian Connie Zeigler, is published by the design firm Commercial Artisan and costs $10 here.

Beat the Black Friday crowds—and support local businesses to boot—at tonight’s Mass Ave Midnight Shopper, when 15 stores stay open until the clock strikes 12. Parents who want to stay out late: The YMCA at the Athenaeum is offering Parent’s Night Out, where kids ages 6 months to 12 years can enjoy holiday arts and crafts, a movie, snacks and general fun and frivolity. Get It While You Can
Speaking of Mass Ave finds, here’s a brand-new discovery: Handmade Promenade (750 N. College Ave.), a pop-up shop that opened its doors on Wednesday. Stop by to browse cute crochet bags, Indiana-themed art, and other artisan pieces. More than 50 artists are represented at the boutique, which is open through December 29. It’ll stay open ’til midnight tonight, but usual hours are: Tuesday–Wednesday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; Thursday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon–5 p.m.
