Darius Rucker to Sing National Anthem at Indy 500

Don’t call him Hootie: Since going solo, Rucker has established himself as a chart-topping country-music star.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced today that former Hootie & the Blowfish front man Darius Rucker will sing the national anthem at the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 29.

After earning Grammy-winner status with the ’90s pop-rock phenomenon, Rucker re-branded himself as a deep-voiced country singer and cut four albums that topped the Billboard Country chart.

“I’m honored to sing the national anthem at the Indianapolis 500 and be invited to celebrate the milestone of the 100th Running,” Rucker said in a statement released by the IMS.
