First Look: The Fault In Our Stars Movie Trailer

John Green’s best-selling book takes a big step toward its highly anticipated big-screen release.

Since the movie’s first official poster released to some backlash due to a contentious pun about death under its title, fans have been chomping at the bit to see their beloved characters come to life. Well, the wait is (almost) over with today’s release of the first official trailer.

In the film, based on John Green’s hit young-adult novel, Shailene Woodley (Hazel Grace) seems powerful in the subtlety of her performance, which is hugely important in carrying this entire story from the pages to the big screen. There’s nothing worse than a lead actor overdoing an emotional role, ruining the story of a character who so many have grown to love by way of a book. Fans can relax for now, as every scene in this trailer showcases a thoroughly believable Hazel Grace.

At least in the few scenes shown, Ansel Elgort (Gus) comes across a little more toned down than the young guy we know and love from the book. Fans will have to wait and see if he and the other characters can hold the heavy weight fans will put on their every move.

Even though it’s only two and a half minutes long, the same chills the book delivered are alive and well in the film trailer. Watch closely and you’ll see Gus’s Rik Smits Indiana Pacers jersey carried over from the book.

Now the countdown truly begins for the book-turned-film to hit the big screen on June 6.
