» First String? Colts owner Jim Irsay plunked down $335,500 at an auction this week for a “controversial” Les Paul guitar. Some aficionados consider the instrument the “Holy Grail” of six-stringed guitars and the template for great Paul-built models that followed; others don’t. “I was willing to go a little higher, but I would never go into a million or anything like that,” said Irsay, a noted collector. Because who in their right mind would overpay for something like that or, say, trade a first-round pick for a running back?

» Baby Drama: Sources tell the The Indianapolis Star‘s Stephen Holder that running back Trent Richardson (see previous) missed a walkthrough before last month’s AFC Championship game against the Patriots because his girlfriend was experiencing serious complications with a pregnancy that endangered the life of the couple’s unborn child. The Colts suspended Richardson for engaging in conduct detrimental to the team, a wrinkle that allows the franchise to cut Richardson without paying the final year of his contract. So, while the Patriots may be guilty of playing with deflated balls, it appears the Colts have an overinflated pair.

» General Annoyance: Former Indiana coach Bob Knight—a man who knows his way around a chair—briefly interrupted ESPN’s SMU-Temple broadcast by asking a few fans to find theirs:

» Draught Picks: Sports Illustrated‘s Peter King, in town for the NFL Combine, headlines a tweetup at Sun King Brewery tonight. Sportswriters and beers a special event? They used to call that Tuesday:
