50 Days of Holiday Gifts: The Kitchenware

Day 43: Who needs an exotic-wood pudding plopper?

THE KITCHENWARE
The namesake woodworker behind Tom O. Reed utensils might be a genius. Not only does he craft smooth, whimsical kitchen utenils from striking grains like cocobolo and purpleheart, he also names each piece something like “pudding plopper” or “skillet scraper.” It makes buyers look at every item out of curiosity. Further proof that he thinks of everything: Some models come in left-handed versions. The resident of southwestern Indiana doesn’t often bring his wares to Indy, but he’ll be here Saturday, December 14, for the Alternative Gift Fair in Irvington. Shown, left to right: bagel spreader, $18; salsa scoop, $27; pie server, $55. Alternative Gift Fair, The Irving Theatre, 5505 E. Washington St., altgiftfair.com. Also available on tomoreed.com.
