Job Overview
Indianapolis Monthly seeks a detail-oriented Associate Managing Editor to proofread and fact-check copy for proper spelling, grammar, usage, style, and accuracy. A thorough, meticulous eye is needed to ensure quality and consistency over print and digital channels.
Duties
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Proofread all copy prior to publication to ensure correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, usage, style, layout, and format
- Adhere to AP Style and maintain internal style guidelines
- Enter and oversee fact-checking details
- Track articles and pages through the production routing process and suggest improvements to existing procedures
- Collaborate with editorial staff on lineups, story ideas, and display copy, and contribute to brainstorming sessions
- Train and supervise editorial interns
- Assign and edit special sections content
Qualifications
- BA in Communications, Journalism or English (or equivalent)
- Three to five years of professional experience editing content for print and/or online publication
- Ability to maintain accuracy under tight deadlines and communicate changes clearly
- Highly focused attention to detail
- Flexibility to reprioritize tasks according to changing demands
- Experience using InDesign, InCopy, Excel, Word, and Outlook for Mac
