HOUSED IN A building constructed by the Knights of Pythias fraternal order in 1900, Roots Market + Eatery in Plainfield opened in late May, the latest renovation along the town’s Main Street. Owned by Doug Huff of L.D. Huff Construction—who was also behind the restoration of Plainfield’s Oasis Diner and the Prewitt Restaurant & Lounge—this pantry-stocking destination includes a butcher shop featuring premium meats from Indiana suppliers, an in-house bakery, a deli counter, and a cafe. Above the market, The Eyrie event space serves as a chic wedding venue with a combination of historic and modern details that befit the building’s original castle-like features. “There’s a turret on the east corner of the building with spires along the front,” says Lauren Harlan, marketing manager for the market’s parent Marquee Hospitality Group. “We want people to feel like royalty when they’re up there.”
