  • Profile

The tidy, well-stocked counters at this colorful market owned by father-and-son  duo Nick and Andrew Caplinger (who operated the 56th Street Fish Market for more than a decade) offer one of the city’s widest selections of fresh seafood and shellfish—even Indiana perch and a tank of fresh, Indiana-farmed shrimp. But those who would rather have the Caplingers do the cooking can enjoy some of the tastiest crabcakes, clam chowder, and fish sandwiches in town, as well as smoked-seafood salads. Don’t miss the “lobsta” roll with plenty of sweet lobster piled on a buttered, split-top bun, or the Caplinger’s special, a battered filet of Vietnamese basa with all the trimmings. Light, crispy hush puppies and meaty greens make for great sides tucked into wax paper–lined baskets. Lunch and dinner Tues.–Sat.
