The Feed: Neidhammer Coffee Co., Shift Drink, and More

This week’s trends in Indy dining.

» A coffeehouse, Neidhammer Coffee Co., has opened in the space that connects to Ash & Elm Cider Co. on East Washington Street. Named for the pharmacy that originally occupied the 1901 building, it includes an original mural of Monument Circle that the owners found on the floor during the renovation. The building also houses a membership coworking space on the third floor.

» Take a bicycle tour of some of Indy’s most prolific urban farms, then wrap it up with a freshly prepared, farm-side dinner at the Indy Grown Harvest Ride on September 24. Riders can choose from three routes (northside, downtown, or a combination of the two) and will be guided by volunteers helping with navigation and roadside troubleshooting. The day ends at Fitness Farm with a meal by chef Rob Gaston, incorporating produce from several stops on the tour.

» Local food and beverage pros Ed Rudisell and Arthur Black have launched a new podcast called Shift Drink. Expect conversations with local and national guests and new episodes every two weeks. Rudisell is the restaurateur behind Siam Square, Black Market, and Rook. Black is the president of the Indiana Craft Beverage Association.

She anticipates opening in late September, but you can find her chocolates now at Greenfield Chocolates and the Garfield Park Farmers Market.

Cake Bake Caramel Apple» Good thing swimsuit season is almost over, because The Cake Bake Shop debuted its new fall menu last week. It features flavors like pumpkin chocolate, s’mores, and this decadent caramel-apple cake, which layers apple spice cake, chunks of Granny Smith apples, caramel buttercream frosting, and apple-pie caramel topping.

» Bier Brewery has its annual Pumpkin Ale Release Party this Friday (September 9). The pumpkin ale starts flowing at 1 p.m., with live music and food starting at 5 p.m. Sector Sixty-Five neighbor Moveable Feast will be there, along with Alley’s Alehouse Tent from Fishers.
