The mantra “You Only Live Once” (or YOLO) is a philosophy centered on seizing every opportunity. Former Fox 59 Indy Now host and Straight No Chaser alum Ryan Ahlwardt embodies that idea by stepping away from the camera and back into a place he knows very well—behind the microphone as a singer-songwriter. He hosts a record release party for his new album, Crying in the Canyon, on Friday, October 30, at the Tarkington Theater at Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel.

Artists shape Indianapolis, and Indianapolis shapes artists. The six creatives profiled understand this relationship intimately. Some arrived in the city from as far away as New England and Brazil. Others grew up here. But all bring fresh perspectives, ambitious projects, and commitments to give back to the community that either spawned them or provided a safe space where their talents could flourish. Their contributions to our city, whether it be in paint, music, dance, or the written word, are just beginning.
