» Herbalist Derek Weaver will host “Talking Mushrooms with a Fun Guy” at Good Earth (6350 Guilford Ave., 317-253-3709) on November 26. Weaver will discuss the medicinal properties of species like reishi, maitake, and lion’s mane, and explore the nutritional profile of more commonly known mushrooms including the portabello, morel, and shiitake.

» Sangiovese Ristorante (2727 E. 86th St., 317-757-5913) is kicking off the holiday season with a global champagne and sparkling wine tasting event on December 1. Tickets start at $50 and include the champagne tasting and light hors d’oeuvres.

» 22nd Street Diner (2205 N. Delaware St.) closed permanently last week. The four-month-old restaurant with modern takes on diner classics didn’t give a specific reason for the closure, but chef John Herndon expressed sadness on his personal Facebook page that they couldn’t make the business model work, and hinted that efforts to move the diner to another location didn’t pan out. 22nd Street Diner is the second restaurant to close in the exact same location in a year, after Asian-fusion spot Longbranch opened and closed within six months.

» The Indiana Craft Beverage Association and the Indiana chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild are teaming up for the Indy Repeal Party on December 5 at Indianapolis City Market (222 E. Market St., 317-634-9266) For $35 you can celebrate the repeal of Prohibition (thank you kindly, 21st amendment) with signature cocktails at 10 bars staffed by local members of the USBG.

» Duos is hosting a Warm Winter Welcome during lunchtime on December 1 at Duos Kitchen (2960 N. Meridian St., 317-927-6810), with live music and complimentary sweets and sips with a $5 purchase. There will also be opportunities on site to support the local refugee-assistance organization, Exodus Refugee.

» We know it’s only Thanksgiving week, but darn if we aren’t enchanted with this reindeer cake from The Flying Cupcake. Even better news? The bakery only needs 24 hours’ notice for you to grab your own. Call any of the six local locations to special order one in time for your reindeer games.
