At a campaign stop in the important swing state of Michigan today, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump brought former Indiana University basketball coach Bob Knight onstage for some words of support.
“I went to Ohio State instead of one of your favorite schools,” Knight told the audience in Grand Rapids, which reacted with a hearty chorus of boos.
“I knew you’d give me that,” Knight continued. “But you know, we beat your ass most every time we played you.”
Knight was a member of the basketball team at Ohio State, the University of Michigan’s arch rival. He neglected to mention IU at the rally, continuing the cold-shoulder treatment he’s shown his former employer since being fired in 2000. He endorsed Trump for president at an Indianapolis rally ahead of Indiana’s primary election in April.
