» Patrick’s Kitchen and Drinks (175 S. Main St., Zionsville) announced via Facebook that New Year’s Eve will be its last night of service. Fans can still get menu favorites at Patrick’s Smokehouse Kitchen, located inside Danny Boy Beer Works at the Village of WestClay (12702 Meeting House Rd., Carmel).
» The space formerly occupied by City Cafe (443 N. Pennsylvania St.) is coming back to life with a new owner, new menu, and updated digs. According to the Indianapolis Star, chef Charles Mereday plans to remodel the restaurant and open under the name Mile Square Bistro by early 2017. Most recently, Mereday owned and operated restaurants in Florida. He is a managing partner at Point Harbor Cafe in Outer Banks, North Carolina, and has a diverse culinary career that includes time in Roanne, France; Birmingham; Philadelphia; and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
» Food truck favorite Scratchtruck is shuttering operations. Owner Matt Kornmeyer made the announcement in an emotional post on the company’s website, citing rough winter business and the inability to secure funding for a brick-and-mortar location. Scratchtruck was the ninth food truck to open in Indianapolis but quickly made a name for itself nationally, including an appearance on Eat St., the Cooking Channel’s popular television show celebrating North American street food.
» Locally owned Garden Party Botanical Hard Soda received the 2016 Innovation of the Year award from Beverage Industry Magazine, making it the first Indiana brand (and first woman-owned business) to receive the award. The company was founded by Erin and Stephen Edds, who previously shook up the beverage market with Hoosier Momma Bloody Mary Maker. Past winners of the award include Starbucks Iced Coffee, Kickstart by Mountain Dew, and Malibu Rum Sparklers.
