The Feed: The Gallery Pastry Shop, a New Boulangerie, and More

This week’s trends in Indy dining.

» Indy’s food-obsessed Instagrammers lit up their feeds last week with drool-worthy shots of French macarons and chocolate éclairs from The Gallery Pastry Shop (1101 E. 54th St., 317-820-5526), Indy’s latest destination for dessert groupies. In addition to photo-ready sweets, pastry chef Ben Hardy and his wife, Allison Keefer, will offer classes on making cakes, macarons, pies, and cookies.

» Circle City Sweets is expanding at City Market, taking over a space directly across from them (vacated recently by a produce stand). Circle City Sweets: Boulangerie will be open by Oct. 1, allowing baker Cindy Hawkins and her team to take on more wholesale clients and broaden the specialty breads available for retail customers at the City Market and Lawrence locations.

» Fletcher Place’s buzzy Rook (501 Virginia Ave., 317-737-2293) introduced a new menu this week. Diners can snack on chef Carlos Salazar’s Asian take on select Mexican favorites, including a Korean burrito with bulgogi flank steak, and elote street corn with smoked tofu curd. Personally, we’re saving all the room in our bellies for the “secret menu” option: a double okonomiyaki burger. Two savory Japanese pancakes stand in for a bun, anchoring a burger stacked with bacon, egg, brussels sprouts, Velveeta, special sauce, and charred scallion mayo.

» South side favorite The Blind Pig  (147 S. Madison Ave., Greenwood, 317-882-7892), known for live music, great pizza, and its last-man-standing policy allowing smoking inside the restaurant, is going smoke-free in September. The owners announced the change on their Facebook page late last week.

» Speaking of Greenwood, more than 6,000 people are expected to attend WAMMFest at Craig Park on Saturday, August 20th. WAMM (Wine, Art, Music, Microbrew) attendees can eat from 20 different restaurants and food trucks, shop from more than 60 juried artists, and sample Indiana wines and microbrews. Tickets are $10 in advance online, or $15 at the gate. Kids attend free. 10 E. Smith Valley Rd., Greenwood.
